Food & Water

Stinging Nettles can be safely eaten if boiled and the water poured off. Do not pick them with your bare hands. Don’t even let them touch you! Cut some tender tops or young plants into a pot and prepare them without touching them until cooked. They’re tasty.

They get taller than your head and the fibers in the stems of older plants can be used for making cordage. Like for fishing line and nets.

Be sure to look at the firemaking section for the yellow birch. The inner bark of the birches is edible. An emergency filter straw can be had for around ten bucks. Also I always have a thin scarf with me. Dirty water strainer, food carrier, and much, much more.
